Research interests

  • Organic farming
  • Trophic interaction structures
  • Integrated pest management

Agroecosystems have developed from multiple cropping systems with relatively closed nutrient cycles to intensively managed monocultures to match the growing global demand for food. There is a broad consensus concerning the detrimental impacts of modern agriculture on the environment and on ecosystem services, which highlights the need for more sustainable agricultural practices. Despite the increase of organic land area within Europe, there is still little information on the mechanisms operating in low-input systems, especially on plant-pest interactions. My research focuses on the nutritional status of soils and plants and on nitrogen availability, respectively, in relation to the performance of herbivorous insects in leguminous crops and cereals.
